WMU Director: Beth Dorsch
WMU
Dock's WMU Director
Beth Dorsch is our dedicated WMU Director and vital link between the State Woman’s Missionary Union and our local churches. With a heart for missions and community, Beth oversees quarterly WMU meetings, serves as a key planner for local outreach projects, and actively promotes WMU initiatives across Columbus and Brunswick counties. Beyond coordination, she passionately mentors and empowers WMU groups within each church in our association—fostering unity, growth, and a shared commitment to the Great Commission.
What is WMU?
The Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) is an auxiliary of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) that has played a vital role in promoting and supporting Christian missions since its founding in 1888. Rooted in the Southern Baptist tradition, WMU encourages churches to engage in missions through education, prayer, financial support, and hands-on ministry. With programs for all age groups, from children to adults, WMU equips believers—particularly women—to live out the Great Commission by fostering a deeper understanding of global and local mission work. Their initiatives support missionaries, raise awareness of global needs, and inspire service within communities and beyond.
Brotherhood
Dock's Brotherhood Director
Jamie Sarvis serves as our Brotherhood Director, acting as a vital link between the North Carolina Baptist Men (now known as Baptists on Mission) and the local Brotherhood departments within our churches. In this role, Jamie organizes local missions and outreach efforts, helping churches engage in hands-on service that reflects Christ's love in their communities.
He also plays a key role in coordinating disaster relief and recovery, working closely with leaders from both the NC Baptist and Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) to respond effectively in times of crisis.
In addition to these responsibilities, Jamie is passionate about building and encouraging Brotherhood groups within local churches. He leads and promotes men’s events and gatherings that strengthen the faith of men both young and old equipping them to serve as spiritual leaders in their homes, churches, and communities. Through his leadership, the Brotherhood continues to grow as a dynamic force for missions and ministry.
What is Brotherhood?
The Brotherhood in the context of missions is a group within many Southern Baptist churches focused on engaging men in missions, evangelism, and service. Often referred to as Baptist Men or Brotherhood, this group organizes and participates in activities such as:
Local and international mission trips
Disaster relief and community service projects
Evangelism training and outreach
Mentorship and support for men and boys through faith-based programs
The Brotherhood encourages men to actively live out their faith by serving others and supporting the mission of the church. While it may go by different names today, the heart of the Brotherhood remains: mobilizing men for the Great Commission.
